How to Prep for
Flea Treatment
Flea Treatment Protocol & Customer Checklist
“Breaking the Cycle, Together”
Service Overview
We’ll be performing a targeted flea treatment to eliminate active fleas and break their life cycle. Your cooperation before and after treatment is essential for full success.
PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS
Why Flea Treatments Take Time
- Fleas have a 4-stage life cycle: egg → larva → pupa (cocoon) → adult.
- Cocoons (pupae) are the toughest stage: they can survive for weeks, shielded from chemicals.
- They only emerge when triggered by movement, vibration, CO₂, and humidity.
- This means your DAILY PARTICIPATION is critical to success.
- Expect 4–6 weeks to break the flea cycle completely.
Pre-Treatment Checklist (Before We Arrive)
- Remove all pets from the home during treatment.
- Wash all pet bedding in hot water and dry on high heat.
- Launder household bedding, blankets, throw rugs, and fabrics.
- Vacuum all carpets, rugs, and floors — discard contents in an outdoor bin immediately.
- Clear floors: pick up toys, shoes, and clutter for maximum access.
- Cover or remove aquariums (turn off pumps and seal with plastic wrap).
- Store children’s items away from treated areas.
During Treatment (While We’re Working)
We apply a professional flea treatment mixture:
- Adulticide – kills exposed adult fleas.
- IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) – stops eggs and larvae from maturing.
- Optional Flushing Agent – excites hidden fleas for faster exposure.
The home must remain empty of people and pets for 2–4 hours after we finish (or until dry).
Post-Treatment Checklist (Days 1–28)
To bring hidden fleas out of cocoons, you must:
- Vacuum daily (carpets, rugs, upholstery, baseboards). Dispose of contents outdoors.
- Wash bedding (human and pet) weekly.
- Continue vet-recommended pet flea prevention.
- Create movement and activity in rooms daily. Allow pets on floors once safe.
- Expect flea activity for 2–3 weeks — this is normal as they emerge.
- Do not shampoo carpets for 3–4 weeks — it removes protective products.
Follow-Up Treatment
- A second treatment in 14–21 days is strongly recommended.
- This kills newly emerged fleas before they reproduce.
- Skipping follow-up reduces the chances of full success.
Client Expectations
- Flea elimination is a partnership: Tire Swing’s treatment + your cooperation.
- Seeing fleas for weeks afterward does not imply treatment failed.
- With daily vacuuming, pet prevention, and a follow-up service, the cycle will be broken in 4–6 weeks.
Together, we will protect your home, pets, and family — permanently.
Vacant Property Flea Treatment Addendum
Purpose: Vacant properties require extra steps because flea pupae remain dormant without
movement, vibration, or CO₂. This addendum ensures complete flea elimination when the
property is unoccupied.
Pre-Treatment Checklist
- Ensure electricity is on if needed for equipment.
- Remove clutter or debris that blocks floor access.
- Cover or remove fragile items, valuables, or aquariums.
During Treatment
- Apply professional flea treatment:
- Adulticide – kills exposed adult fleas
- IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) – stops eggs/larvae from maturing
- Optional Flushing Agent – helps expose hidden fleas
- Consider mechanical agitation (timed fans or vibration devices) to simulate movement.
Post-Treatment Care
Simulate Occupancy for Pupae Activation:
- Enter the home/business (or have a caretaker enter) 5–10 minutes daily for 1–2 weeks.
- Use light vibration or timed devices to mimic movement.
- Once the property is occupied:
- Vacuum thoroughly and discard debris outdoors.
- Wash bedding and pet items.
- Schedule follow-up treatment 14–21 days after activity begins.
Expect complete flea elimination in 6–8 weeks for vacant properties.
Key Points
- Pupae may remain dormant until movement or CO₂ triggers emergence.
- Treatment alone is not enough in vacant structures—simulated activity is essential.
- Follow-up treatments are critical to break the flea cycle fully.
